Info
One Computer One Child is a non-profit (501c3) educational initiative that uses computers as a subtext to promote the education and further learning of individuals, families and communities through the use of technology. Along with educational programs such as our digital literacy class, virtual mentoring, tutoring, workforce development and distant learning classes, our goal is to provide each "child" with a take home computer, broadband access and provisioning to the internet, along with educational content and software applications. This simple effort becomes a stimulating and life changing experience for One "child”, in turn One family, and One community at a time! Since 2005, OCOC has provided technology to underprivileged children, families, Schools, educational centers and various organizations in the form of refurbished computers, low cost computers and accessories. As a byproduct of our initiative, our quest is to help bridge the digital divide one computer at a time!School based initiative.
While there is no replacement of the Teacher - Student relationship, we believe that with extending and making available the tools at home, or available and accessible after school hours, the teacher, the student and society benefits. By providing an enabling educational program, our goal and aim is to help decrease the digital divide experienced by underprivileged children and individuals. With this endeavor and far reaching support, we will be enriching the lives of families. Our program extends to needy children/individuals, the disabled, the elderly and families left behind in the digital race.
What can you do?
Other programs include:
Bridging the digital divide
Provide new or refurbished computers, Netbooks and PDA's etc.
Cost savings model
By accepting computer donations from businesses, the federal/local government, corporations, colleges and other major institutions, we are able to refurbish and upgrade the donated equipment as an alternative to costly new computers. As a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher, we are able to provide Genuine Microsoft applications and Operating Systems with the systems we refurbish and donate. We provide a 501c3 donation receipt to all donors.
Recycling
We accept working computers as donations that are refurbished for use. We will wipe your hard drive clean and safe using DoD level certified software. In the event a computer is not usable after receiving it, we would use the working parts and recycle the unusable parts responsibly through our upstream certified partners. We will provide a certificate of recycling and hard drive sanitization.
